My battery charge cycle is under 300, battery life drops a bit but still strong (9 hours instead of 10). If under heavy usage or often charge it overnight, it's normal that MacBook Pro's battery can become swollen pretty soon. According to the staff, it depends on usage. Consider it was just after about 2.5 years use, I find it hard to believe. Today I brought it to Apple Store Singapore for diagnostic, specialist at Genius Bar confirmed that it's caused by swollen battery. Over past few months, it wobbles more and more serious. Few months ago, around 2018 Nov, bottom of the device appears a bit uneven, with slight gap with my desk.
I have no sympathy for those who ignore this.I bought the MBP around 2016 April. Simple case, even the cheap ones, provide good protection for the sides of the phone when dropped. I see people with busted screens on phones all the time. It landed face flat and because of the protruding lip on the edge of the case there was no damage. And they've fallen or been dropped a number of times, including at one point one of my older ones got snagged on a cable as i was pulling out of a pocket, bounced down the subway platform, bounced off a stopped train and onto the tracks. They were still replacing phones back then instead repairing in store, so after I got the replacement I sold it right away in pristine condition and got a new phone.īut I've always had a case on my phones. I ended up using the AppleCare but only for the battery issue that was plaguing that series of phones.

The large increase in screen size plus the rounded screen edges worried me about potential durability. Out of my 9 iPhones since 2008, I've only ever bought Apple Care for one of them, the iPhone 6.

For Mac desktops, iPad (since it never leaves the house), Apple Watch, I'd probably skip AppleCare. My experience with iPhones have been very solid so far but since I spend so much money on them, I like having the protection. My alma mater just offered to buy me a new machine.ĪppleCare totally seems worth it for AirPods especially when it comes to battery replacements.
I asked for an estimate to repair it which was quoted at around $800 or $900. Brought it to the Apple Store the next and they basically said sorry, it's not covered (which I understood). Had AppleCare I believe but it was only for mechanical defects. Wow! I had an old MacBook Pro that was damaged in a car accident during a college work trip back in 2015. So, two years is probably not a bad idea and I don't have to worry about paying for yet another monthly subscription. But, even then, I'd still probably keep it for a while longer until at least the iPhone 15.

In my case, I have paid upfront and monthly.Yeah, my only concern is if they drop the notch in the iPhone 14 and want to upgrade early. I also used AppleCare after putting my AirPods Pro through the washer (MagSafe and both pods).

Haven't had to use it for my phone, but my kid tried using it unsuccessfully (cracked screen - dropped the phone like 40 times before he cracked the screen) but I guess staff felt sorry for him and put it through for free due to a "manufacturing defect." 30 minutes though to get the job done, impressed. Doing it monthly does cost more in the end, but you can cancel at any time, which is handy if you're going to upgrade.ĪppleCare has come in handy for me, with a MacBook that I have. I think it depends on how long you plan on keeping the phone.
